“From one Hellbender to another!”

from !

Greetings folks,

“Hellbender” here, this is my 2 cents from one Hellbender to another, these little critters are currently considered endangered, and need protecting! As you may know I spent 1 month in my tree platform and took the name “Hellbender” for many reasons, the most prevalent being that we are both in danger if development takes place in the Loyalsock State Forest!

This song posted yesterday by the always wonderful Center for Biological Diversity brought a smile to my face in knowing that more people can get to know the “real” Hellbender!

Enjoy and don’t forget to keep tuned in!

Your friendly neighborhood Hellbender

Hellbender salamanders (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis) are not the cuddliest of species, with their slimy bodies that look like the 2-foot-long lovechild of phlegm and a rock.

Actually these critters — also called “devil dogs” and “snot otters” — are pretty much a PR nightmare for anyone trying to fight off their extinction due to water pollution and dams. The rallying cry “Save the Snot Otter” doesn’t always go over well.
